MEDICINE
NOT IDEAL SIZE
Commercial medication is often available in only one tablet
size. The tablet may be too large to give a dog and many tablets
may be necessary to treat a steer. We can compound more appropriate
dosage forms that are just the right size for any animal.
MEDICATION
UNAVAILABLE
Drug manufacturers often discontinue medicines and dosage
forms for which there is low demand. However, there still
is the occasional need for suchproducts. Once we obtain the
active ingredient, we can compound dosage forms more specific
for each animal.
ADMINISTRATION
PROBLEMS
It is easier and usually less costly to give any animal one
injection rather than four. In the sterile environment of
our laminar flow hood we can compound injectables that contain
exact concentrations of one or more ingredient. This can also
be applied to inhalant solutions, preparing more than one
medicine for delivery by nebulizer - very helpful when treating
horses.
We
work with veterinarians and animal care specialists to improve
outcomes of drug therapy and reduce overall costs.
SPECIAL
EYE DROPS NEEDED
Veterinarians often have need for medicated eye drops which
are not commercially available. These drops may contain several
ingredients. We can compound sterile eye drops to contain
exactly the concentration of medicine needed for each animal.
INCONVENIENT
TO USE
Animals may have a skin problem that requires more than one
medication. However, most skin creams have only one active
ingredient, so the animal would have to use two or three different
creams. This is often inconvenient and costly. Compounding
these active ingredients into one cream provides a more convenient
and cost effective solution.
